A Day in the Life of a Queer Bookstagrammer/BookToker

Ever wondered what actually goes on behind the perfectly curated rainbow bookshelves and the flawlessly lit "book haul" videos? Being a queer content creator in the bookish world: affectionately known as the "Bookstagram" and "BookTok" community: is about 10% aesthetic coffee sipping and 90% franticly searching for the perfect lighting while trying not to trip over a mountain of MM romance books.

Welcome to a day in my life. It’s Monday, March 2, 2026, and the queer literary scene has never been more vibrant. At Read with Pride, we live and breathe these stories, but the "creator" side of things is a whole different beast. Grab your favorite mug, clear a spot on your TBR (To Be Read) pile, and let’s dive into the chaos.

08:30 AM – The "Golden Hour" (or close enough)

My day starts not with a shower, but with a search for sunlight. In the world of queer bookish content, lighting is everything. I spend the first hour of my day doing what we call "shelfie maintenance." This involves rearranging my collection of gay romance novels so the spines create a perfect gradient.

I’m currently prepping a post for my most anticipated new gay releases of the month. I’ve got a stack of 2026 gay books that I’ve been lucky enough to get as ARCs (Advance Reader Copies). Before I even take a sip of caffeine, I’m snapping photos of book covers.

Pro-Tip: If you’re looking for the best mm romance books 2026, keep an eye on those indie covers: they are absolutely killing it this year with the neon-pastel aesthetics!

10:00 AM – The Engagement Grind

After the photos are taken, the real work begins. Content creation isn't just "post and ghost." To stay relevant in the algorithm, I’m spending time in the comments. I’m replying to people asking for gay book recommendations and debating the merits of different MM romance tropes.

Right now, the community is obsessed with "forced proximity" and "enemies to lovers." There’s a massive thread on my latest reel about why enemies to lovers MM romance hits different when there’s magic involved. I make sure to link them over to some of our genre-bending MM romance discussions to keep the conversation going.

11:30 AM – Scripting the "Tok"

Now it’s time to move from Instagram to TikTok. BookTok requires a different energy: it’s faster, wittier, and usually involves a lot of trending sounds. Today’s video is a "Trope Tier List."

I’m ranking my favorite M/M books based on how well they execute the "only one bed" trope.

  • S-Tier: Heartfelt, slow burn stories where the tension is so thick you could cut it with a bookmark.
  • A-Tier: Steamy MM romance that doesn’t skimp on the emotional development.
  • B-Tier: Gay adventure romance where the bed is actually a sleeping bag in a cave (extra points for creativity!).

I spend about an hour filming. This involves changing my shirt three times to look like different "characters" in a skit and trying to convince my cat not to knock over the stack of gay thriller novels I’m using as a tripod.

1:00 PM – Lunch and "Research" (Reading Time!)

Lunch is usually a sandwich eaten over the pages of a new gay contemporary romance. Right now, I’m deep into my research for a massive listicle: The Top 10 Best MM Romance Books 2026.

To be a good creator, you have to read: a lot. I’m currently averaging about three books a week. It sounds like a dream, but when you're reading for "work," you’re always thinking about:

  1. Which quotes will make a good "aesthetic" slide?
  2. Is the LGBTQ+ fiction representation authentic?
  3. Does this book fit into a specific niche, like gay historical romance or gay spy romance?

2:30 PM – Editing and SEO Strategy

This is the part most people don’t see. I’m not just a reader; I’m a mini-marketing agency. I’m editing my videos, adding captions (accessibility is a must!), and researching keywords.

In 2026, search intent is king. People aren't just searching for "gay books"; they’re looking for "heartfelt gay fiction" or "award-winning gay fiction." I spend time tweaking the metadata on my blog posts and ensuring I’m using tags that help people find Read with pride easily.

If you've ever felt overwhelmed by the options, our sitemaps are actually a great way to browse through categories of MM fiction and find exactly what you're in the mood for.

4:00 PM – The "Author Spotlight" Interview

Part of being a queer bookish influencer is supporting the creators behind the stories. This afternoon, I have a Zoom call with an indie MM author to talk about their upcoming release. We discuss the importance of trans and non-binary characters in popular gay books and how the landscape of gay literature has shifted to include more "happily ever afters."

We often talk about how to avoid the "Bury Your Gays" trope, something we’ve covered in our guide on common character development mistakes. It’s these connections that make the job worthwhile.

6:00 PM – Community Events & Gay Book Club

As the sun sets, I head over to a local Discord server for a gay book club meeting. We’re discussing a gay psychological thriller that has everyone on the edge of their seats. The community aspect of being a "Bookstagrammer" is the glue that holds it all together. It’s about creating a safe space where LGBTQ+ romance is celebrated without judgment.

I also take a moment to check our social media channels:

Seeing the tags and mentions from readers who found their new favorite gay love story through one of my posts? That’s the "main character energy" I live for.

8:00 PM – The Late Night TBR Spiral

The "work day" officially ends, but as any book lover knows, the reading never stops. I’m currently scrolling through Readwithpride.com to update my wishlist. With so many MM fantasy and gay eBooks coming out, my Kindle is basically screaming for mercy.

Being a queer content creator in 2026 is a whirlwind. It’s about advocacy, aesthetic, and a whole lot of love for the written word. Whether you’re looking for steamy MM romance or emotional MM books, there’s a creator out there (likely me, covered in cat hair and surrounded by books) ready to tell you why you need to read it right now.
