The Campaign for Us: A Gay Contemporary Romance
Read with pride. Love without apology.
What happens when the man you want is the one you shouldn’t have?
Andrey Volkov has everything a successful creative director could want: a corner office overlooking Manhattan, a flawless reputation, and a string of award-winning campaigns. His world is stylish, controlled, and meticulously curated. He doesn’t take risks. He doesn’t make mistakes. And he certainly doesn’t fall for new employees.
Then Sam Garcia arrives.
Brilliant, unconventional, and frustratingly talented, Sam is everything Andrey isn’t—messy, passionate, and unafraid to challenge authority. When Sam’s avant-garde ideas clash with Andrey’s classic vision for a luxury vodka campaign, their professional battles spark an undeniable, electric attraction.
A single drunk confession changes everything.
After a celebratory cocktail evening, Sam kisses Andrey and admits what they’ve both been denying: “I fancy you. I have since day one.”
What begins as a secret affair soon becomes something neither expected—a deep, consuming love that threatens to unravel the careers they’ve worked so hard to build. But in the cutthroat world of Madison Avenue advertising, a relationship between a director and his subordinate is a liability.
When their secret is exposed, the fallout is brutal. Sam is exiled to a creative backwater department. Andrey is ordered to maintain professional distance. Their forbidden romance is pushed into the shadows, surviving only through late-night digital chats and stolen moments.
They have everything to lose. But staying apart might cost them more.
Forced to choose between their careers and their hearts, Andrey and Sam make a daring decision: they leave the agency together. They launch their own firm—Volkov & Garcia—built on the revolutionary idea that strategy and soul can coexist. But building a business while building a life together is harder than either imagined.
From glamorous industry galas and tense client pitches to quiet mornings in their shared apartment, this is a sweeping 41-chapter love story about two men learning to trust, to fight for each other, and to create something no boardroom can contain.

In the gilded, punishing world of the Teatro Colón, eighteen-year-old Santiago Vargas is a masterpiece of contradictions: a powerfully masculine prodigy in the graceful art of ballet, a son trapped by traditional expectations, and a young man silently drowning in a truth he dare not speak.
Haunted by an awakening attraction to the male bodies that share his stage and showers, Santiago’s disconnection from his own life deepens. His salvation—and his ruin—arrives in the form of Mateo Casales, a legendary forty-one-year-old former star hired as his private tutor. In the intimate silence of Mateo’s studio, rigorous correction evolves into profound connection. Mateo’s hands, which teach the language of movement, begin to speak a different, more dangerous dialect—one of recognition, desire, and a shared loneliness that echoes across a twenty-three-year chasm.
The Male Variation is a sweeping, 54-chapter epic that charts the terrifyingly beautiful collision of two souls. Santiago, grappling with the seismic decision to come out in a society and a family that may reject him, finds in Mateo not just a teacher, but the first person who truly sees him. Mateo, a ghost haunted by the memory of a past love sacrificed to fear, is terrified that history is repeating itself, even as he’s irresistibly drawn to Santiago’s talent and vulnerability.
Their love story unfolds in stolen moments: in the hallowed darkness of an empty theatre, in the rain-soaked sanctuary of a private home, and in the secret language of music and touch. But the outside world is relentless. From the claustrophobic gossip of the company locker room to the devastating, public fallout of an anonymous letter and a tabloid scandal, Santiago and Mateo are forced to navigate a labyrinth of professional ruin, familial heartbreak, and societal condemnation.
At the heart of the storm, Santiago is handed the role of a lifetime: Don José in Carmen, a character destroyed by a forbidden, all-consuming passion. He must decide whether to hide or to channel his own forbidden love into a performance that could redeem or destroy him. Meanwhile, Mateo faces an impossible choice: deny their love to save Santiago’s soaring career, or stand proudly in the light, accepting the cost.
This is more than a romance; it is a profound exploration of artistry, identity, and the courage it takes to live authentically. It delves into the eroticism of the dancer’s form, the intimate cartography of a shared soul, and the brutal, beautiful cost of choosing love over safety. Set against the vibrant backdrop of Buenos Aires and the demanding world of professional ballet, the novel is a symphony of emotion—tragic, romantic, erotic, and ultimately triumphant.
For readers who crave deeply emotional, character-driven stories, The Male Variation offers an unforgettable journey. It is a testament to the power of love as the ultimate creative force and the most difficult, rewarding variation a person can ever dance.

Title: “Finally, a gay romance that understands both passion AND partnership”
I’ve read dozens of MM romance books, and so many of them focus either entirely on the physical heat (which is great, don’t get me wrong) or on the angst of coming out. “The Campaign for Us” does something rare and beautiful: it gives us a love story between two successful, driven men whose main obstacle isn’t their sexuality, but themselves. Andrey and Sam are both fully realized characters with flaws, ambitions, and real emotional depth. Their journey from professional rivals to secret lovers to true partners is absolutely gripping.
The advertising world setting is fresh and glamorous without being shallow. I could practically see the Manhattan skyline and feel the tension in those glass-walled conference rooms. The authors clearly understand corporate politics and how suffocating it can be to hide who you are.
The heat level is perfect—steamy enough to satisfy but never gratuitous. Every intimate scene advances their emotional connection. The chapter where they dance at the Apex Awards made me tear up. It’s such a quiet, powerful moment of defiance.
What I loved most was watching Andrey grow. He starts as this controlled, almost cold figure, and watching him learn to be vulnerable—to truly partner with Sam rather than manage him—is a beautiful arc. Sam, meanwhile, never loses his spark. He’s fierce and talented and refuses to be diminished.
If you’re looking for gay contemporary romance that will make you feel, swoon, and cheer, buy this book. I finished it in two days and immediately wanted to read it again.

Title: “A stunning, emotional journey from secret glances to standing together”
I discovered this book through a gay book recommendations thread, and I am so grateful I did. “The Campaign for Us” is exactly the kind of LGBTQ+ fiction I’ve been craving: adult characters with real careers, real problems, and a love story that feels earned.
The 41-chapter structure might seem intimidating, but the pacing is perfect. Each chapter ends with a hook that makes you say “just one more.” I read until 3 AM multiple nights in a row. The first half, with all the secret glances and forbidden tension, is delicious. But the second half, where they actually have to build a life together while launching their own agency? That’s where the book truly shines.
So many romance novels end at the “getting together” moment. This one shows you what comes after—the fights, the compromises, the terrifying leap of starting a business with your partner. It’s messy and real and so much more satisfying.
The supporting characters are well-drawn too. Clara is a wonderful ally, and Brenda is a complex antagonist—not a villain, just a woman trying to protect her agency, even if her methods are hurtful. The authors avoid easy good-vs-evil binaries, which I appreciated.
The steamy MM romance scenes are beautifully written—sensual and emotional without being crude. But the quiet moments are what stayed with me: the breakfasts together, the tree decorating, the final scene back in the speakeasy where it all began.
This is a book about courage—not the courage to come out, but the courage to stay. To fight. To choose each other every single day. Read with pride, indeed.
Highly recommended for anyone who loves gay romance books with heart, heat, and lasting emotional impact.

Title: “A masterpiece of emotional, heartfelt gay fiction”
As someone who has been reading MM romance for over a decade, I’ve developed a discerning eye. Many books in the genre rely on tropes without substance. “The Campaign for Us” is the opposite: a trope-rich story that uses every familiar beat to explore something deeper about love, ambition, and authenticity.
The enemies-to-lovers arc between Andrey and Sam is expertly crafted. Their early clashes feel genuine—rooted in real creative differences, not manufactured conflict. Andrey’s need for control clashes beautifully with Sam’s refusal to be contained. The scene in Chapter 33 where they have their first real fight as partners is raw and painful and so, so real. I felt their fear that they were repeating old patterns.
The advertising setting is used brilliantly. The authors clearly understand the industry—the client politics, the creative pressures, the exhausting performance of professionalism. The Aura campaign subplot is fascinating and serves as a perfect metaphor for their relationship: something bold, emotional, and risky that succeeds precisely because it refuses to play it safe.
The secondary characters are wonderful. Clara is the best friend everyone deserves. Ben Carter is a client who becomes a believer. Even Brenda, the antagonist, has understandable motivations. The world feels lived-in and authentic.
What I will remember most is the ending. No rushed “happily ever after” here. Instead, we get a quiet, earned happiness—a sense that these two will continue to fight for each other, but that the hardest battles are behind them. The final chapter, back in the speakeasy, is perfection.
This is emotional MM books at its finest. If you love gay love stories that make you cry, laugh, and believe in the power of choosing love, do not miss this one. Read with pride, absolutely.
