A lonely banker. A handsome thief. A heist that was never about the diamonds.
Alexander Harrington manages billions for the ultra-rich from his Wall Street office. He’s meticulous, guarded, and hasn’t been touched in eighteen months. Then Adrian Black walks in—a charming art consultant with a dangerous secret. His real name is Andrei Mihalcea, a professional thief hired to steal $47 million from the bank’s vault. The target: Sergei Volkov, the oligarch who murdered Andrei’s parents and built an empire on human trafficking.
The plan is simple: seduce the banker, get the codes, take the diamonds, disappear. But Andrei never planned on falling in love. And Alexander never planned on trusting again. When the heist goes perfectly, Andrei vanishes—leaving behind only a letter and a shattered heart.
Arrested and betrayed, Alexander discovers the truth: Andrei stole only one box. Volkov’s box. The diamonds are evidence. Now Alexander must choose: turn in the man he loves or help him finish what he started. From New York courtrooms to Romanian mountain cabins, from prison cells to a second heist that could kill them both, this is a story of survival, sacrifice, and the kind of love that breaks every rule.
MM romance, heist thriller, and emotional redemption—perfect for fans of LGBTQ+ suspense and gay love stories that keep you reading all night.
THE ROMANIAN CON: A Love & Larceny Novel – A breathtaking MM romance that blends the heart-pounding tension of a heist thriller with the raw intimacy of two broken men finding love in the most dangerous of circumstances.
Alexander Harrington is the perfect private banker. Managing $2.3 billion in assets from his corner office on Wall Street, he’s cold, controlled, and utterly alone. Betrayed by an ex who used him for insider trading, Alexander has built walls so high that no one has touched his heart in eighteen months. Until Adrian Black walks through his door.
Adrian Black is charming, brilliant, and devastatingly handsome. An art consultant specializing in Romanian folk art, he claims to represent a wealthy client interested in acquiring rare icons. But Adrian is a lie. His real name is Andrei Mihalcea, a professional thief with a fifteen-year mission: to steal $47 million in diamonds from the most secure vault in New York. The diamonds belong to Sergei Volkov, a Russian oligarch who murdered Andrei’s parents during the Romanian Revolution and has been trafficking women across Europe for three decades.
Andrei’s plan is simple: seduce the lonely banker, gain access to the vault, steal the evidence, and disappear. But from the moment their eyes meet, the plan unravels. Alexander sees through Andrei’s masks. He laughs at his jokes, holds him during nightmares, and whispers “I love you” in the dark. Andrei, who has never loved anyone, finds himself falling hard for the one man he’s supposed to betray.
When the heist goes perfectly—thirty-one seconds, a disabled camera loop, a stolen briefcase—Andrei vanishes, leaving behind only a letter and a shattered heart. Alexander is arrested, interrogated, and branded a traitor. But as the FBI closes in, Alexander discovers the truth: Andrei stole only one box. Volkov’s box. The diamonds were never the target. They were proof.
Now Alexander must make an impossible choice: turn in the man who broke his heart or help him finish what he started. Together, they flee to Romania, where a dying friend, a hidden cabin in the Carpathian Mountains, and a second, more dangerous heist await. They will break into Volkov’s estate, steal the master ledger of his trafficking network, and expose him to the world. But Volkov has enforcers, spies, and a personal vendetta. And he will not go quietly.
Told in dual POV, THE ROMANIAN CON is a full-length MM romance novel with explicit content, emotional depth, and a guaranteed happy ending. It explores trauma, survival, and the redemptive power of love. Perfect for readers who enjoy gay romance books with high stakes, morally grey heroes, and slow-burn intimacy that turns into an inferno.
This LGBTQ+ thriller features a Jewish banker with panic disorder and a Romanian thief with a missing finger, a haunted past, and a heart of gold. Expect heist sequences, courtroom drama, prison separation, and a wedding that will make you cry. While this is a standalone novel, the love story continues in the upcoming sequel, THE BUCHAREST BLUE.
Read with pride. Because love is not a crime—but sometimes, justice requires breaking the rules.

I picked up THE ROMANIAN CON because I was looking for a gay romance that wasn’t just fluff—I wanted intrigue, danger, and real emotional stakes. This book delivered in spades. From the very first chapter, when Andrei (posing as Adrian) walks into Alexander’s office, I was hooked. The author does an incredible job of balancing the heist thriller elements with the slow-burn romance. You feel Alexander’s loneliness like a physical ache, and you feel Andrei’s guilt every time he lies. The way their relationship develops—from manipulation to genuine love—is masterful.
The secondary characters are also fantastic. Detective Cruz is the kind of ally every fugitive wishes for, and Maria (the Romanian contact) broke my heart. Volkov is a terrifying villain, not because he’s cartoonishly evil, but because he’s so believable. The human trafficking subplot is handled with sensitivity and never feels exploitative.
I especially appreciated the dual POV. Seeing Andrei’s internal war—his mission versus his growing love—made the betrayal scene gut-wrenching. And the prison chapters? I sobbed. The reunion in Budapest had me cheering out loud.
If you love MM romance books with high stakes, morally complex heroes, and a happy ending that feels earned, buy this book. It’s over 100,000 words of pure, addictive storytelling. I’ll be first in line for the sequel.

Where do I even begin? THE ROMANIAN CON is one of the best LGBTQ+ thrillers I’ve ever read. The premise—a thief falling for his mark—is not new, but the execution here is fresh, raw, and emotionally devastating. Andrei isn’t a smooth-talking playboy; he’s a traumatized orphan who has spent twenty-three years chasing revenge. Alexander isn’t a naive victim; he’s a guarded banker who has already been burned by love. Their chemistry is electric from their first handshake.
The heist scenes are incredibly detailed—you can tell the author did research on bank security, lockpicking, and surveillance. But the real magic is how the suspense serves the romance. Every stolen moment between them feels precious because you know it might be the last.
I also loved the Romanian setting. The descriptions of Sibiu, the Carpathian mountains, and the folk traditions added a richness that most gay romance novels lack. The side plot about Andrei’s parents being journalists-turned-CIA assets was a brilliant twist.
The only warning: this book is emotionally heavy. There are scenes of violence, trauma recovery, and prison brutality. But the author never goes for shock value—everything serves the story. And the ending? Perfect. The last chapter, “The Last Safe,” made me cry happy tears.
Highly recommend for anyone who likes gay thriller with heart. This is not a light beach read, but it’s unforgettable.

As a gay man who’s been reading MM fiction for over a decade, I’ve become picky. I want realistic characters, authentic emotions, and plots that don’t rely on miscommunication tropes. THE ROMANIAN CON exceeded every expectation.
Alexander and Andrei are both deeply flawed, deeply lovable men. Alexander’s panic disorder is portrayed accurately—not as a weakness but as something he manages. Andrei’s guilt over killing his abuser in the orphanage is handled with nuance. Their love story is built on trust that has to be rebuilt from ashes after the betrayal. The scene where Alexander reads Andrei’s letter in jail? I had to put the book down and breathe.
The thriller elements are tight. The second heist—breaking into Volkov’s estate—had me on the edge of my seat. And the courtroom scenes felt authentic (I’m a paralegal, so I notice when legal details are wrong; here, they’re spot-on).
The book is long, but every chapter earns its length. The supporting cast—Cruz, Maria, even Marcus (who gets a redemption arc I didn’t see coming)—adds depth. The ending, from the wedding to the Vermont farmhouse to the final safe, is exactly the closure these characters deserved.
This will be on my “best gay romance books of the year” list. Do yourself a favor and read with pride.
